In recent months the big buzz of the internet has been the Twitter , I will not even dare to discuss the reason for all this commentary and growth, just limit myself to show some numbers and facts, but first I will explain briefly what is twitter, if you do not aware.
Quoting Wikipedia: "Twitter is a social network and server to microblogging that allows users to send personal updates containing only text in less than 140 characters via SMS , instant messenger , email , official website or specialized program. It was founded in March of 2006 by Obvious Corp.. in San Francisco . "
Basically the service should work well, you get on a site, and type what you're doing at the moment, something would come out on the website Twitter: "Macari is doing an article on twitter." But of course the thing got out of control from the creators and service turned into something much larger than initially thought, with people using to expand its network of contacts to maintain contact with friends, display ideas, and of course even for companies that have realized tool in a large market, and the potential for direct contact with the customer. I can cite a great example, the CNN , which in addition to sending the news of the hour to his followers also encourages the presenters who have a twitter account to have a direct contact with their viewers, accounting for twitter, or even on TV, the comments received via twitter.
Of course this is not just CNN, there are hundreds of other examples, in Brazil we have companies like Citroen, Fast Shop , Embratel and many others that have joined this new form of communication.
You can also exercise your desire to be closer to his idol and follow it, may be some famous actor or a blogger you love to read, I personally like to follow these: TechCrunch , GarotaSemFio , SergioVDS , MafaldaMonacast , CMerigo , just to name a few. How about following every thought of the loved one? Some "twitterers" do it daily, owner @ adrianatamy say so.
Okay, so you still prefer to stay out of this great internet reality show? Do not blame you, not everybody who accept and wish to publicly expose this, but okay, twitter has already predicted this and you can choose to leave their tweets visible only to those chosen by you.
How about staying out of special promotions just for Twitterers? Yes, some companies have already noted that the public and are already creating marketing actions only for twitter, like the recent case of Telefonica who hired Marcelo Tas to announce a new product line, so good that this has generated much controversy, but it sure gave a lot of visibility for those involved.
And finally there is the social side of Twitter, such as the recent event Twestival , organized around an idea of twitterers from London and that has spread around the globe, including Brazil, which was attended by more than ten cities, I personally arranged the publication of Curitiba , in which all others involved, we managed to raise more than R $ 600 in donations for Charity: Water , an NGO that focuses on bringing clean water to needy communities around the world.
Watch the interview with @ stavaresfilho to the PRC, and talking about the Twestival twitter:
And now the numbers:
Twitter grows 1382% in a year, says Nielsen
Twitter gets $ 35 million contribution.
Just a personal note, I preferred Jaiku , a competitor of Twitter, that stood out to be stable and have a better presentation of information, but unfortunately it was bought by Google and was shelved, and recently discontinued and released as open source. Shame on you Google.
Update: As I questioned and it was an oversight of mine, my username on Twitter is @ Macari .
